What's going on guys, my name's Theoatrix and welcome to my Mastering Mixology guide for OSRS. In this post I'll go through the basics and advanced strategies of the minigame with everything you need to know…

Why Do Mixology?
Well, most importantly, mastering mixology gives the most xp for your herbs in the entire game, which makes it a great place for ironmen to train their herblore.

Ironmen aside, the minigame offers a broad range of useful rewards and unlocks, including potion storage, the chugging barrel, the alchemists amulet, reagent pouch and prescription goggles. All of these are major benefits for your account that can only be unlocked by playing the minigame.

You may also consider playing this minigame for money, where buying aldarium is the best gp per hour, and ironmen can greatly benefit from having some aldarium for prayer regeneration and goading potions.
Requirements
Before getting started, there are some requirements to partake.
To access the mixology area, you need to complete the children of the sun quest, which is a short easy quest giving access to varlamore.
But more importantly, you need at least level 60 herblore to partake in the minigame, and this is not boostable.
Best Herbs To Use
In terms of items, the only thing you really need is a few different herbs.
With the herbs, you create pastes outside the main minigame area. There are 3 different pastes, which are made from differing herbs, and to be effective within the minigame, you do need all 3 types..

You should aim to use the cheapest herbs, and there are calculators online that show which herbs are best for you.

For ironmen, there are certain herbs that are not used for making essential potions, like these ones for the different types of pastes. Overall, this minigame gives ironmen a better reason to pick up every type of herb, since they can all be used to make paste.
Mixology Runthrough
Now ill take you through a basic runthrough of the minigame, and ill briefly show each step.
You firstly need to create some paste which is done by using the refiner near the mastering mixology bank. Here, you bring unnoted herbs to convert to paste.

Then, you enter the main lab area, and deposit your paste in to the hopper which is near the entrance of the actual lab area.

Next, youre automatically assigned 3 potions to make, which can be seen in the top left.

Then, the idea is that each potion has a different combination of pastes, and you set up the potion by pulling the levers near the centre, then you take the potion from the beaker in the middle.
Then you have to process the potion, which can be either homogenizing, crystallizing or concentrating, and those are done at the 3 tables surrounding the centre.

For homogenizing, once you start you can click again within 2 ticks and it speeds up the process.
For crystallizing, if you click again on the 5th time you pump the bellows, then you also speed up the process.
And lastly for concentrating, you can click every tick to speed up the process.
Then after you have your potions ready, you click the conveyer belt at the end of the room to deposit your potions for points and xp, and then you repeat.

However, At low herblore levels, you should just make the potions youre assigned, and this minigame really becomes better at level 81 herblore when you can make mixalot potions. for the fastest xp and fastest points, the strategies are a little different which ill show shortly, and these involve using mixalots.

Now with mixology, i strongly recommend installing the “mastering mixology” runelite plugin which essentially tells you exactly what you need to do and highlights the important features. This is found on the plugin hub in the runelite client.

While training, theres a chance that a digweed will grow in one of the corners of the area, and adding digweed to any potion will double the points and xp that you get from handing in the potion. So this is great for increasing your output, but is not always worth going out of your way to get depending on which strategy you do.
Advanced Strategies
m going to show 2 certain strategies you can follow which have their own benefits. I’ll show you how to get the fastest XP rate, and ill show you how to get the most points per hour.
Fastest XP
Firstly, I'm going to show the fastest xp strategy.

The idea with getting the best xp is to premake all of potions with 2 or 3 different types of pastes, then you make the single paste potions as you go. What i mean by this is you make all of the ones that are, for example, like two green one red, two blue one green, and then you go out of your way to make the potions that are just all red, all green or all blue.

The idea of this is that you get bonus experience for completing all 3 potions on your order, and since making the single paste potions is faster and easier than making the others, you can just make them as you go which will be more efficient.
So heres a rundown.
You prepare each type of potion, with 3 potions of each, and one of each type of processing. And if youre level 81 with mixalot potions, you can prepare 1 extra mixalot that isnt processed, just incase you need an extra mixalot.

Then you go to the conveyer belt and deposit as many potions as you can until you cant fulfil the entire order, and the game will automatically take the correct potions out of your inventory. Then you go out of your way to make the remaining potions in the order, the ones you dont have, and eventually, once you’re low on the pre prepared potions, you go and fill up your inventory again with all of the 2 and 3 paste potion types.
So the main points are that you dont need to premake the triple single paste potions because they are easier to make, and you essentially deposit potions until you dont have all 3 on the order, then you make them.
Fastest Points
Now for the fastest points strategy, and this one works a little differently and it has a lot of efficiency maximisation.

The essence of this method is that you avoid making potions that arent worth your time, since the amount of points you receive is not worth the time spent making some of the potions.
So im going to show you the strategy that focuses on all 3 reward points, so all 3 types of resin, and this is prioritizing your total points although it is possible to target a specific resin.
So the idea is you’ll be depositing 1, 2 or 3 potions at once, depending on the types of potions on your order. And technically you do get more points for completing the entire order, so 3 potions at once, but the time spent making the extra potions is not always worthwhile in terms of points per hour.

You can refer to this information when deciding which potions you should make, and you can see that in some cases, you do make all 3 potions and in others you just make the mixalots. If you havent unlocked mixalots then its usually better to just make all 3 potions until you unlock mixalots at 81.
So for example, from this table, single paste potions are best handed in 3 at once, whereas two mixalots and another potion mean you should only hand in mixalots.
With the fastest points method, you also should always be using digweed on your mixalot potions.
