OSRS Dagannoth Rex Solo Guide

What's going on guys, my name's Theoatrix and welcome to my Dagannoth Rex solo guide. On a main account, you may consider defeating rex for profit, and on an ironman, getting yourself a berserker ring drop is a huge upgrade.

Guide Outline

If you would prefer to watch a video-version of this guide, I have linked that below. Otherwise, continue scrolling to read the written-version of this guide.

Requirements

To be able to fight Rex effectively, there are a few stat recommendations.

You should have at least level 50 magic, and that allows you to use at least Ibans blast. That spell also requires the underground pass quest, but alternatively, rex is weak to earth spells, so using at least earth blast will be sufficient.

Also to fight rex, you need a pet rock, level 85 agility OR a friend to help you into the cave. The pet rock is from the Fremennik trials quest, and its used to bypass the gate that usually requires 2 people.

Level 85 agility lets you bypass most of the cave, but without 85, you need to bring a rune thrown axe to break the doors. And you use the special attack, and wearing them in the first place requires 40 ranged.

Recommendations

So those are the minimum requirements for rex, but what about the recommendations?

Imbuing your Ibans staff is a great help, allowing you to stay for longer trips. And having at least 70 defence is a huge help here, keeping you safe from the other kings and the other NPC's in the room. At minimum, i would recommend 40 defence if you're fighting rex.

Its also recommended to bring your best ranged defence armour while fighting rex, and that is to negate as much damage as possible from the Spinolyps in the room. They attack with ranged and ranged magic, so you need high range defence for both those attacks.

How To Get There

So Dagannoth rex is located in waterbirth dungeon, and that's located on Waterbirth Isle.

To get to the isle, you can use a waterbirth teleport tablet off the grand exchange, or you can use an enchanted lyre teleport with the hard Fremennik achievement dairies completed. Another way there is using a lunar isle teleport and getting kicked off the island, then taking the boat to Waterbirth. Or lastly, an easy way there is using a redirected Fremennik house teleport tablet and running to the boat.

Entering Boss Room

So once you're on waterbirth isle, make your way to the dungeon entrance and then once you enter, head all the way west to the doors, and head to the northern most door.

I drop my pet rock on one of the pressure plates then I open the door. Then you continue running to the end of this part here, and you equip your rune thrown axes and use a special attack the middle barricade.

Then you climb down the ladder with protect magic on, and climb down the next ladder but this time with protect ranged. Then continue following the cave going up the next ladder, then turning on protect melee and running to the south. Then down that ladder you want to turn on protect ranged and run west to the ladder. And you want protect magic here, then you follow the ladders, continuing to keep protect magic active.

Then you go to the eastern ladder, with protect melee, and continue running east. Then you go up, then down the ladder, running through the dagannoths. And this is the final ladder, where you want to start with protect melee and swap to protect mage. Then here is the dagannoth kings lair, but you can run a bit further and jump over the tree root to enter a safe area to hop worlds.

Rex Mechanics

Once you're at the Dagannoth kings lair, the hardest part is entering safely without getting attacked by the other kings.

So you should enter with protect from magic active, and you’ll instantly want to be looking out for whether the ranger or mager attacks you. If one attacks you, run back up. While the ranger is usually closer, it doesn't hit as high as the mager, so you should always use protect from magic when doing this.

So once you go downstairs again and nothing is attacking you, hug the wall and run south, and then hug the wall to the east until you're in the eastern section of the room.

Then, using magic, you can attack rex and drag him back to the edge of the arena, then you can trap rex by running south a bit and he's trapped on the edges of the room.

The battle with rex is very easy since you're able to safe-spot, and once you've defeated him, you wait until he respawns, then you attack with magic and re lure him into the safe-spot.

Gear & Inventory

Now, probably the most important part here is your gear and inventory.

In your invent, you want to bring your Waterbirth Isle teleport, and you definitely need a pet rock and a rune thrownaxe if you don't have 85 agility. You’ll also need some food, at least 10 pieces, and some prayer potions, at least 4 to 6 of them. And a stamina potion really helps when running through the cave, so definitely bring one of those, and lastly you will need anti-poisons since the NPC's in the room can poison you, and I'm bringing Araxxyte venom sacks, which are a stackable food that cures poison and venom. Alternatively you can just bring antidote plus pluses or something like that.

In terms of gear, I'm currently showing the minimum setup that I would recommend and you can see that there's really not much that gives a magic bonus here, but rex’s magic level is zero, which means your magic attack bonus doesn't really do much here. But… ensure in your equipment interface your mage bonus isn't lower than minus 65 otherwise you splash every hit on rex.

And here is a mid level setup, this time bringing full Guthans for healing, and you could also bring a Sara Godsword or a blowpipe to heal as well.

And the best weapons to use are these on the right, with the minimum being Ibans blast and earth blast. The eye of Ayak is very powerful at rex, with very fast kills, and you should also prioritize magic damage boosting items if you can.

Anyways that was my rex guide for OSRS. If you learnt something today, be sure to leave a like, for more Old School Runescape content. Thanks for reading.
