Top 10 Goals For New OSRS Players

What’s going on guys, my name’s Theoatrix and welcome to the top 10 goals for new players. In Old School Runescape, most of the early game involves questing with a bit of skilling, Then, once you unlock Barrows Gloves, you can consider yourself to be starting the mid-game.

In this guide, I'm going through the top 10 goals but in reality all of these are crucial for your account. Lets get into it…

Guide Outline

If you would prefer to watch a video-version of this guide, I have linked that below. Otherwise, continue scrolling to read the written-version of this guide.

Money Making

If you're a new player, having a bit of cash is going to go a long way, allowing you to purchase teleports, gear, food and other useful items.

Thieving is a great way to get some starter cash, where going for 99 will get you 15 million GP at Ardy knights.

Completing herb runs is considered to be the best money maker without super high requirements.

Crafting is another profitable skill, where making silver jewellery can sometimes make a million per hour.

There’s a tonne of resources online regarding money making, so if you're looking for a method that suits you, do a bit of research and you’ll find something good.

Questing

The 9th early game goal is to complete quests that boost your early combat levels.

Aim to complete the Waterfall Quest early, and you can also do vampire slayer, fight arena and work towards monkey madness 1. These will set up your account with some early combat foundations, with useful unlocks and big XP rewards.

Doing just the waterfall quest will get you from 1 attack and strength, to level 30… For free to play players, you can aim for the Dragon Slayer quest, then from there, it's recommended to get membership.

Grinding the money for a bond in free to play is very time consuming and usually isn't worth your time.

Fairy Rings

A great early game goal, is to unlock fairy rings.

These provide teleports to areas that are usually out of the way, and are used very often in the mid game and late game too. You don't actually need all of the requirements for the Fairytale part 2 quest to unlock fairy rings, since you unlock fairy rings only part way through the quest.

Essential Skills Unlocked

An important early game goal, is to unlock all of the essential skills that you need to progress.

This includes doing Druidic Ritual for herblore, Rune Mysteries for runecrafting, Eagles Peak for box traps and The Feud to start blackjacking. There’s also the quests for Pyramid Plunder, Guardians of the Rift, and a few others, and those can be completed as you unlock those methods.

Barrows Gloves

The next early goal for new players, is to get into questing towards the barrows gloves.

You need 175 quest points to get the gloves, which is about 90 quests. You can prioritize the quests that give tonnes of early XP, and also, having quest requirements to work towards can motivate you to level your skills.

If you're not really sure how to start or progress with questing - you can follow the optimal quest order spreadsheet provided by Slayermusiq1.

Connect With Others

A very important goal for early game players is to enjoy yourself, otherwise you’ll get burnt out.

Don't restrict yourself to the efficient training pathways, and take time to interact with other players. Make connections and friendships, and try out different areas of content.

Add Runelite Plug-ins, Learn Game Mechanics

The next goal for early gamers, is get comfortable looking at guides and also get comfortable using the client, whether that's Runelite, standard or mobile.

There’s tonnes of free guides and resources out there for you to use, so if you're stuck or want to learn more about anything, look things up on google or YouTube with the keyword “OSRS” at the end.

Learn AFK Methods

If you're dreading a skilling grind in the early game, its useful to know some AFK training methods.

Almost every skill is AFK-able in some way, so you can AFK the cooking requirement, mining, fishing, magic, woodcutting and crafting requirement for the barrows gloves. The AFK methods may not be the most efficient, but making slower progress with less effort is sometimes a good thing.

Get 99 Combat With Slayer

After completing the early game combat quests, you should aim to do your combat training with slayer.

Slayer provides some of the best combat XP rates in the game, since wearing a black mask boosts your damage and accuracy against slayer monsters. Slayer is the slowest skill to 99 for regular players, so getting those early levels done will help in the long run.

Establish Account Goals & Pathway

The number 1 early game goal for new players, is to establish your account goals and pathway.

There is no set path in Runescape, you can do whatever you want, so its nice to set a goal, like 99 in a skill or defeating certain bosses. This gives you something to work towards. You might also find that you just enjoy a certain method, so you might consider grinding that until a high level.

So those were the top 10 early game goals for new players in OSRS.
