How To AFK Runecraft in 2026 (OSRS)

Daeyalt Essence
So everybody knows that Zeah runecraft is considered one of the most AFK Runecrafting methods in the game. But, when I got 99 Runecrafting, I didn't find it very AFK, so I primarily trained by using a different method. And that was using daeyalt essence at the Ourania altar.
Daeyalt essense gives 1.5 times the amount of runecrafting XP, but its untradeable, meaning you have to mine it yourself. But with that, it means you can replace some of your time Runecrafting with time mining, and the mining portion of daeyalt is very AFK.
Each daeyalt rock lasts 60 seconds before you simply need to click once on to the new rock to afk for another 60 seconds. The one downside to this method is that it requires the sins of the father quest to mine daeyalt, and that means low levelled players cant really benefit from this method, but for those people going for 99 Runecrafting, you might be a higher level, so this method is great for you.
Ourania Alter/ZMI
So that's daeyalt, but with your daeyalt, the most AFK Runecrafting method you can do is the Ourania altar, or also known as ZMI.
Here, there are 20 to 30 second AFK intervals when running to the Runecrafting altar, and its just 1 click to get to the altar. The part that is less AFK is the banking and run replenishing segment, while its not as afk its still quite relaxed and doesn't require very much focus.
You can use the vile vigour spell, and pray at the prayer altar there, to replenish your run energy. And the Ourania teleport spell takes your close by for each run.
XP Rates
In terms of XP rates, the effective XP rates are about 95 percent of the speed of using regular essense, so overall it's slightly slower Runecrafting per hour to mine daeyalt then use it. But, you replace some of the Runecrafting time with mining daeyalt, which is far more AFK.
You may consider going to get the abyssal needle from guardians of the rift at the early levels because having a colossal pouch is going to help tremendously at the Ourania altar.
So at the start, I mentioned Zeah Runecrafting, and while you can AFK for 2 to 3 minutes while mining the dense essense, there is a good chance that the rock depletes early.
Although if you want the ultimate AFK here, get 99 mining first since the higher your mining level, the lower the chance of the rock depleting.
The XP rates are quite low at Zeah Runecrafting methods, although for mobile players, this is considered the best method to do without banking.
